Review - Chantecaille Future Skin Gel Foundation

Chantecaille is featured very regularly in both my makeup and skincare routines. It's probably the only brand that has never disappointed me when it comes to philosophy, ingredients, performance and quality. I haven't come across a "dud" just yet!

What surprises me about Chantecaille is the lack of coverage it gets not just in the blogosphere but other media outlets as well! Just like their products - classic, un-trendy and performance driven, Chantecaille remains under the radar, untouched by hype; carving a niche spot among its loyal customers! 

Nonetheless, a little more exposure couldn't hurt! 

Chantecaille Future Skin foundation has been in my vanity rotation for at least a year now and it's probably the one I reach for the most. The gel-like texture and real-skin finish have a lot to do with its success in the fickle world of my makeup stash. 

When I am rushing and have no time for fuss, Future Skin is a tried & tested way to go for me.

Chantecaille's Future Skin is an innovative oil-free gel foundation with a refreshing, lightweight texture. This unique formula is composed of 60% charged water, which transfers moisture into the skin without the use of oil as an emulsifier. Future Skin is made with reflective circular pigments that provide adjustable coverage (medium to full) and ease the appearance of flaws. It is also loaded with natural botanicals, including aloe, chamomile and arnica, that work to calm irritation and soothe sensitive skin. Rosemary, green tea and rice bran help prevent environmentally caused oxidation

Aqua (Water), Cyclomethicone, Butylene Glycol, Cetyl Dimethicone Copolyol, Dimethicone, Peg-350, Sodium Chloride, Silica Dimethyl Silylate, Glycerin, Rosmarinus Officinalis (Rosemary) Leaf Extract, Laminaria Saccharina Extract, Natto Gum, Camellia Sinensis Leaf Extract, Aloe Barbadensis Leaf Extract, Chamomilla Recutita (Matricaria) Extract, Arnica Montana Flower Extract, Oryza Sativa (Rice) Bran Extract, Phenoxyethanol, Methylparaben, Propylparaben; May Contain: Methicone, Stearic Acid, Aluminium Hydroxide, Silica, Iron Oxides (CI 77491, CI 77492, CI 77499), Talc, Titanium Dioxide (CI 77891), Mica (CI 77019).

This lovely oil-free gel foundation is a dream to blend even for novices like me and leaves a pretty moist-glow sheen that looks like "skin". The natural finish is partnered with light coverage that will even things out and blur any minor imperfections. Any bigger 'bumps' will need concealer to complete the "rich girl" polished look. Layering it works great and adding an extra coat will successfully increase the coverage without leaving a streaky, caky mess.

The finished product is healthy real skin that doesn't look made-up, which is something I strive for with all my base products. 

Another attractive aspect about Chantecaille Future Skin is how great it feels on the skin - it's almost a cooling, soothing sensation, unlike any other foundation experience I've ever had. The skin-loving ingredients actually translate into the "feel" of this gel-cream and makes you feel great about using it. 

The shade selection available seems to cater to the light-medium skin tones (mine is porcelain), while those with tan or darker skin mat have a very hard time finding a match. I hope Chantecaille remedies that soon!

The only not-so great thing about this foundation is the extra-ordinary price ($72 for 1 oz) and the fact that you'll most likely have to do a bit of searching to purchase it. Chantecaille counters are scarce so a lot of us have to rely on online shopping to acquire their products. 

My final conclusion is obviously more than positive and I would gladly recommend it to all of you. However the price and availability do give me some pause but ultimately it's a great foundation and one I will gladly hoard.

The Hero Club of the Month - June

I am sure most of you are familiar with the staple "Monthly Favorites" post, which shows up on almost every beauty blog out there (at some point anyways!)

Well as usual I am "late to the party" but never one to be left behind, I decided to unveil my own line-up of HERO products and things that really made a difference in my girly struggles this month anyway!

Since my skin has been going through some kind of freak-out stage this month, I was forced to break out some heavier-duty foundations to cover it all up. I rediscovered an old favorite, MAKE UP FOREVER Mat  Velvet + Matifying Foundation, which preformed amazingly and actually made me wonder why it was forgotten in the first place. I love the fact that it provides medium to full coverage, remains undetectable, lasts a good 8 hours or more and leaves a "real skin" finish. It covered all redness, blotchiness and breakouts but didn't melt in the humidity either.  Perfection in a bottle and one that will not be put back in the vanity drawer.

With finals, classes, all-nighters and feeble attempts to figure out Calculus, this month has been very rushed and I've had to make every minute count in order to balance everything out. Unfortunately that meant that makeup-play was very limited and I've had to stick to a fairly simple, low maintenance look every day. This is where a forgotten Benefit Velvet Eye shadow came in - "Fawn Over Me" is a perfect neutral color that manages to define my eyes without being boring and best of all it takes mere minutes to perfect.

Whether you are up all night partying or studying or panicking, the result is always the same - lack-luster, dull, sallow and just plain drab complexion. The cure or remedy would of course be a good night sleep and vitamin spiked smoothie but when that cant be scheduled i rely on the beautifully scented By Terry Or De Rose Elixir Extreme to bring me back to life. The price tag is a tad ridiculous ($170) but I cant deny the fact that it does work beautifully and smells like a true summer rose garden. I use a few drops to mix in my foundation, layer it on as a primer or on the days i am really rushed I just wear it by itself. It definitively gives a true illusion of health and radiance without being all obvious about it. 

In an attempt to calm and heal my skin I dug deep into my stash for some skin pampering and discovered a mask I purchased around Christmas that lay forgotten and lonely. Since my complexion is suffering from the whole trinity - redness, reactivity and irritation, Origins Dr. Weils Mega-Mushroom Skin Relief Mask seemed like a perfect fit. I was impressed after just one use! My skin felt soothed, hydrated, cooled and in general a lot more comfortable. The results in the mirror were just as promising too - the redness was almost completely gone after 10 minutes. The instructions say to leave on for 10 minutes and then tissue off, however i like rinsing it off just to make sure its removed completely. Its a little pricy ($45 here) but it made such a difference for me that i don't even care about that aspect.
