Turning On the Light - Mastering the Dewy-Glowy Radiant Look

Even the most hard-core makeup lovers sometimes crave a natural, fresh look that emphasizes natural beauty and a softer everyday youthful feel to your overall appearance.
Don't get me wrong, as a beauty blogger and a lifetime cosmetics fan, I appreciate the variety makeup experimentation can bring to the table and what fun we can have with the transformations resulting from such play time, however I admit there are days and occasions where the non-makeup look is just easier and perhaps even more appropriate. There are beauty queens that can pull off bold, glamorous looks every single day and I have to admire their dedication but for me personally that simply isn't feasible to accomplish. I might over-complicate my beauty routines from time to time but even I have days when I just can't be bothered to follow through with all my essential "steps"

The "natural" makeup look sounds deceptively simple and easy to preform but even such minimalist presentation needs a variety of products, time and technique to execute and perfect. Replicating the "no-makeup" look ironically requires a combination of both good skincare and you guessed it...makeup products!

The best way to get the dewy look is to have a good base to start with. What I mean by that is that having good skin in the first place, increases your odds of getting things right when it comes to this makeup style. It makes sense, if your skin is dry, uneven, dehydrated and lack-luster to begin with, you'll have much harder time accomplishing any makeup goal and this is no exception to that rule. If anything good skin condition is the most important for the "natural" look because the whole point is to use sheer cover-up products in order to allow your natural glow to shine through.

Your regular skincare routine, including gentle cleansing, exfoliation factors and sufficient moisture levels are major players throughout that process.

Beauties with already oily skin may have a hard time with this makeup effect for the simple reason that adding additional "glow" or "dew" to such skin types can only exasperate the "grease" problem. The silver lining for oily skin is that their skin cells produce an abundance of natural oils that can be tamed through the use (but on over-use) of oil-absorbing, mattifying products that will allow some natural dewiness to shine through and amplify the radiance everyone else is working so hard to get.

STEP 1 - SKINCARE

As i already mentioned, a good skincare routine created through the use of appropriate skin-loving products is going to be your best friend in developing long-term complexion radiance. Healthy skin is your best starting point but if that's not a possibility there are a few things you can do and products you can use to give your skin a boost and fake some glowy smoothness prior to actual makeup application.

Replacing your usual, daily cleanser with a cleansing balm will allow you to gently remove skin impurities and add skin-plumping hydration just by washing your face. The ones that never let me down are the Antipodes Certified Organic Grapeseed Butter Cleanser ($42.00) and the Elemis Pro-Collagen Cleansing Balm ($70.00).

Good skin preparation following the cleansing step should include a radiance & hydration boosting serum topped by a nourishing moisturizer that will smooth out your complexion canvas and get it ready for additional products. My current favorite serums are the REN Radiance Perfection Serum ($66.00) and the Jurlique Purely Bright Radiance Serum ($72.00), which I follow with the MuLondon Organic White Chocolate Truffle Moisturizer ($25.00) almost daily. Taking a few extra minutes to massage these potions into your skin will stimulate the circulation and elevate the natural radiance factor as well.

Using a light exfoliator before preparing this "no-makeup look" such as the Melvita Foaming Facial Scrub ($30.00) can also increase your natural radiance exponentially. When I am feeling especially productive I like to use the LUSH Bubble Gum Lip Scrub ($9.95), following it immediately with my beloved By Terry Baume de Rose ($60.00) to pamper and plump up the pout.

STEP 2 -  FACE MAKEUP

After completing your skincare routine you can focus on completing and perfecting the makeup steps of this transformation process. I am sure many of you will be surprised just how many products I consider useful and necessary to achieve this seemingly basic "no-makeup look"! However keep in mind that even though the number of beauty items may be high, the application technique and time needed is significantly reduced so once you master the steps the look itself will be easy to replicate each time.

Depending on your coloring, skin tone and skin condition the type of products you end up choosing will differ but as long as the "sheer" theme is the main attribute of the choices you make, the basis of your personalized natural look should remain universal. The texture and feel of your makeup base needs to be sheer and light, with the goal being a satin-like glowy, real-skin finish in order to achieve the youthful, fresh look we are pursuing.

The first product I start with is a radiance-boosting primer, typically looking for a formula with light-reflecting particles included in the medium itself. Some excellent primers I have used in the past are Tarina Tarantino Pearl Glow Primer ($32.00), BECCA Radiance Primer ($55.00) and Elizabeth Arden Let There Be Light Radiant Skin ($19.99). I find that using a radiance boosting formula primer can add glow to the complexion in a lot more subtle way than most highlighters and since the natural look is all about subtlety and natural lights a product like that can really pull the entire look in the right direction.

Keeping with the sheerness theme my primary choice for coverage are usually tinted moisturizers, BB creams and very sheer, lightweight foundation formulations. To keep the finish natural I apply the base with my fingers or a damp sponge making sure to blend and buff everything in to perfection. The final result should be satin-like, sheer perfecting evenness that glows and gives the illusion of a healthy radiance. The one that's been getting the most play time on my vanity lately has been the Josie Maran Argan Tinted Moisturizer ($46.00) which has been making me glow for weeks - people actually noticed!

To amplify the dewiness even more I sometimes apply a liquid or cream highlighter to the cheekbones, brow-bones and Cupid's bow, once again making sure to blend and smooth the targeted areas. My choice for subtle, light reflecting highlighters include: Guerlain Meteorites in Mythic ($67.00), Benefit Cosmetics Watt's Up! ($36.00) and Illamasqua Intrigue ($32.00).

Using a concealer where needed will add polish to your complexion, covering and neutralizing any redness or minor imperfections that the lightweight coverage of the tinted base was unable to deal with. Once again reaching for a creamy, illuminating concealer formula is your best bet and the cult classics NARS Radiant Creamy Concealer ($30.00) and BECCA Radiant Skin Creamy Concealer ($39.00) will deal with just about anything. The hybrid formulas such as the Yves Saint Laurent Touche Eclat Radiant Touch ($50.00) and its budget dupe L'Oreal Studio Secrets Magic Lumi Concealer ($12.99) will do miracles around the eye area, illuminating and contouring all in one step. It takes some practice but with the right touch the results can be quite flattering.

Light layer of translucent powder to set everything painstakingly applied completes the makeup base and ensures that the achieved results will last the day without smudging, melting or uneven fading. Keep in mind that the powder dust needs to be applied with a very light touch because too much product can just end up mattifying the dewy glow you were aiming for in the first place. Powders that haven't let me down and are still going strong in my stash are: Givenchy Prisme Libre Loose Powder Quartet ($60.00), Smashbox HALO Hydrating Perfecting Powder ($72.00) and the trusty bareMinerals Mineral Veil ($25.00)

STEP 3 - MAKEUP BROWNIE POINTS

Perfecting the "natural look" complexion is the key when achieving this particular makeup look because skin is where most of your radiance comes from however adding a few extra steps to just finely enhance the rest of your features can elevate your look from plain and boring to polished and youthful.

Sheer colour, glowy blushes can add a very healthy flush to your cheeks and if applied correctly actually imitate the outdoorsy, cheeky radiance. I personally prefer cream-based blush formulas because they blend in easier than their powder counterparts and just look more natural on my face. One of my most recent discoveries are the Make Up For Ever HD Microfinish Blushes ($31.00) and they are perfect for faking naturally flushed cheeks.

To maintain the no-makeup vibe the eyes can be enhanced with just a sheer wash of colour with a neutral, taupe or champagne low-shimmer shade while the lashes retain the natural look (try Benefit Cosmetics Velvet Eyeshadow, $18.00)with just a light coat of brown or clear mascara (try Sephora Collection Clear Defining Mascara, $15.00).

Going the natural look route doesnt mean that you have to underplay your pout. Applying a sheer lip stain like the Buxom Full-On Lip Tarnish ($23.00) or a sheer balm like the L'Oreal Colour Riche Lip Balm ($7.99) will keep your look low key but still give you a believable sheer colour to draw some attention to your lips without the stickiness of a lip gloss.

If you have bronzer experience adding a light layer to the the areas of your face where the sun naturally hits, can chisel and emphasize your features through expert contouring. That particular step is lost on me - my limited skills just end up making me look muddy and no matter how much I want to get the natural sun-kissed look every attempt fails miserably. But I am practicing with my Chanel Soleil Tan de Chanel!

The general consensus for this natural, no-makeup, radiant, glowy look is the sheerness of everything you use. This is not about strong colors, seductive smoky eyes, bronzed goddess like cheekbones, foundation masks or statement-making red lipstick. This look is about enhancing and bringing attention to our own natural beauty - spotlighting our own uniqueness and best features all the while celebrating the youthful spirit that resides in all of us.

Sure, makeup makeovers can be extremely fun and empowering and sometimes even the most confident girl can have trouble taking the mask off BUT stripping the artificiality of it all gives us a chance to experiment on the opposite end of the spectrum and no-makeup look is still a makeup look regardless...
Its just softer and prettier...for me anyways!

What do you prefer - nature or glamour?

The Beauty Of Naturally Enhanced Body Oils - Hydration At Its Best!

If you have dry skin or sensitivity that comes along with that blessing then you already know the upcoming cold weather is something we need to arm ourselves for.
The weapons of choice are luxurious, nourishing, soothing and ultra-protective moisturizing potions, capable of kicking ass even through the extremes of Canadian winters. Up here in the great white north we not only have to deal with ridiculously low temperatures but the accompanying arctic cold winds as well. Since my home is right on the Bay of Fundy the sharp, freezing winds can do a number on my already delicate dry skin! Luckily I am a weather veteran now so my arsenal is well stocked with some awesome defensive moisture bombs.

There are a lot of rich, hydration driven formulations out there that do a great job of protecting my skin but my secret weapon that elevates the whole experience to the highest level possible are naturally inspired body oils. Adding just a few golden drops can transform a simple moisturizing lotion into a ultra-nourishing body treatment.

If you are worried about the greasy after effects (rightfully so!) you'll be happy to hear that body oil formulas have evolved so much in the past decade, making them very user-friendly and definitely trial-worthy.
I wanted to share a few body oils that have been rocking my world and ones I would recommend to anyone year-round!
Mother Nature brings it big time!

I have already expressed my love and deep admiration for this French wonder (review here!) so including this was a no-brainer. The luxurious fragrance celebrates the essence of Moroccan and Bulgarian roses, pure Vanilla notes and traces of Cedar and White Musk. The olfactory sensationalism combined with skin loving natural oils creates a formula that not only moisturizes your parched skin but also makes you happy about using it. As usual the Caudalie signature grape seed oil along with Sesame Seed, Argan and Hibiscus oils creates a velvety, silky canvas that sinks in quickly, leaving no grease but only radiant fragrance behind. The charming amber-tinted, vintage glass bottle, topped with a "wood-like" cap only adds to its appeal and the starry blogosphere raves only reinforce its classic Parisian feel. Tres chic - if you ask me!

Cowshed Bath & Body Oils ($31.00 for 3.38 oz)

The British share the same moisture dilemma as Canadians so its no surprise that the niche UK  Cowshed brand really knows how to make a product that effectively meets our hydration needs. This adorable beauty brand battles the freeze and dryness that accompanies it with fairly traded plant extracts, organic ingredients and proven therapeutic botanicals, all blended together into one hard working body oil. The potent formula includes cranberries, grape-seeds, sesame and sweet almond oils, all which penetrate deep beyond the skin surface to hydrate and restore body's own natural moisture balance. The addition of essential fragrance oils is there to highlight their aromatherapy potential and is sure to satisfy even the pickiest olfactory experts! My ultimate favorite is the Moody Cow Balancing Bath & Body Oil where linden blossom and rose geranium freshness kicks into high gear and lulls me into relaxation mode regardless of how bad of a day I might have had. The fact that my skin is left soft, silky and comfortably smooth is obviously a major bonus!
If you value products free from nasty parabens, preservatives, sulfates, artificial fragrances and unnecessary colors then Cowshed is the safely the way to go!

Yon-Ka Huile Corps Body Oil ($62.00 for 3.38 oz)

I am not even surprised that yet another one of my favorites is indeed a French product. Yon-Ka is a Parisian brand whose catch phrase "Quintessence of the phyto-aromatic care" could not be more spot on with their products. Everything they make has that aromatherapy touch that is as lovely to use as its beneficial for our essential well-being - let me tell you, health has never smelled so good!
The Yon-Ka Huile Corps is a fresh and sensual body oil that beautifully marries the herbal note of Sage with a soak in Lavender. Normally grassy-scents like this would not be appealing to a gourmand-lover girly girl such as myself but this combination has a very distinct crisp sweet undertone that provides the aura of absolute serenity to even my judgmental senses. The oily goodness pampers my dry skin by restoring suppleness, smoothing out any flaky, irritated patches and providing a protective barrier on the surface that prevents further moisture loss. It might be my imagination or wishful thinking but whenever i use this my skin feels warm and comfortably cozy, which is a huge bonus during the winter months. The sophisticated golden wonder is presented in a frosted glass bottle which only drives the French exclusivity and just makes you feel that you are using something very special!

REN Moroccan Rose Otto Ultra-Moisture Body Oil ($65.00 for 100 ml)

My love for REN has been well established on this blog and a major portion of my bathroom is dedicated to their skincare essentials. It took me a little longer to sample their body care products but once I did, unsurprisingly their goodness had me hooked almost immediately. Seeing how my love of all things REN was combined with rose essence in their Moroccan Rose Body Care Collection I just knew it was only a matter of time before these became my new must-haves.
The Rose scent in the Moroccan Otto Ultra-Moisture Body Oil is as natural as it gets and completely intoxicating! This is the kind of product that you open up during the day just to give your olfactory senses a little treat. Using the complimentary REN Moroccan Rose Otto Bath Oil ($48.00 for 110 ml) prior slathering the body oil all over is one of the most relaxing, sensual and luxurious experience I have ever had in my own little bathroom.
Essentially if you love roses and clean ingredient beauty then give REN a try - no disappointment or regret at all!

Josie Maran Moroccan Argan Body Oil in Balance ($35.00 for 1.7 oz)

My love for all things roses continues with this Josie Maran powerhouse. The universally loved Rose Damascena is the star of this simplistic one-dimensional scented Argan Oil based body moisturizer so its no surprise that the scent just explodes once it hits your skin. It remains uncluttered in the blend of Argan, Apricot, Sweet Almond, Safflower, Sesame, Avocado, and Olive Fruit oils, meaning that it will dominate no matter how you choose to use this emollient rich moisturizer. The formula also contains the discrete essence of the Vitamin C rich Pomelo Grapefruit oil whose benefits include treating muscle fatigue, hair growth, skin tone improvement and even acne treatment. The beautiful rose however dilutes this almost completely so had I not done my research I would have never detected it on my own.
Despite the fact that Josie Maran markets this as a body oil treatment the little beauty rebel in me has used this as a hair mask, cuticle treatment, subtle rose perfume and a very sensual and effective massage oil.
I am more than a little impressed!

J.R. Watkins Coconut Milk & Honey Body Oil Mist ($8.99 for 6 oz)

As a self-confessed gourmand lover the J.R.Watkins Coconut Milk & Honey Body Oil Mist delivers a dollop of sweetness coupled with deep hydration at a price we can all live with!
J.R. Watkins is an apothecary budget brand that once again proof that we don't have to sacrifice good-for-you ingredients and high delivery formula when choosing a drugstore brand. Their products are made without any no mineral oil, petrolatum, glycols, silicone's, synthetic dyes or any of the other traditional chemical nasties.
The basis of this vitamin enriched body oil mist are the carrier Almond and Apricot Kernel oils which are easily absorbed into the skin and are especially recommended for dehydrated, delicate, distressed, mature and sensitive skin. The rich fatty acids help soothe any inflammation, revitalize the skin and even fight fine lines in aging mature skin. The candied scent from 100% natural Coconut Milk & Honey fragrances leave a scrumptiously fruity veil of moisture, which penetrates immediately with its sheer viscosity and leaves no greasy or tacky residue.
Its essentially good enough to eat!

Mama Mio OMega Wonder-Full Rescue Balm ($30.25 for 30 ml)

To be fair this little wonder is not a body oil in the traditional sense but it does serve a similar purpose and its texture melts into an oil form when applied to the skin. I felt that it deserved a mention because of its ultra-targeted moisture properties and the practical fact that since it comes in airtight, plastic, pump functioning bottle its also very TSA air travel friendly. That fact alone makes it an amazing find and its "nasties-free" ingredient promise is just like the icing on the cake. The results are pretty impressive too!
Its formula features Meadowfoam, Sweet Almond Oil, Avocado Oil, Carott Seed Oil and the trendy Manuka Oil, all of which create a balm worthy of your driest patches. The Mama Mio OMega Wonder-Full Rescue Balm scent is very nostalgic for me and reminds me of my teenage favorite Loves Baby Soft perfume with its subtle rose powdery softness. Once again aromatherapy at its finest!
The matching Mama Mio OMega Body Oil ($35.00 for 5 oz) with its Sweet Almond, Jojoba, Argan and Safflower oils can be layered over the balm for irresistibly comfortable, deeply hydrated skin for a truly baby soft scent experience.

Just a few years ago if someone would have told me that I would be using oils on my face and body I never would have believed it! My aversion of feeling greasy and slippery stopped me from giving these moisturizing innovations a try for a long time. Today things are obviously very different :-)

Do you have a favorite Body or Face Oil?

CLEAN PRETTY IS BETTER PRETTY - Project PART 1

I am about to share a quote with you that scared me a little more than I'd like to admit but I am hoping that it will at least inspire me to make some more significant changes in my personal quest for "cleaner living"
According to the Environmental Working Group "one third of personal care products contain at least one chemical linked to cancer" and the main offenders such as parabens, preservatives or phthalates have been proven to do everything from degrading cell DNA to lowering weakened immune systems.

Its findings and realizations like this motivate me to up my game even more when it comes to choosing better products for both personal and household use. After all ingredients I can pronounce and recognize such as pomegranate, mushrooms, green tea, coconut oil, cocoa, almonds, brown sugar...are so much more pleasant to use and today's natural companies have more than perfected their formulas so you can be assured that they will be effective and safe.

As a beauty blogger, scientist and just an all-around curious person I already really enjoy trying new products, discovering up-and-coming brands and even just researching unusual ingredients. My humble clean-living mission started out just like that - personal research, company communication and a ton of samples and mini bottles. The journey made it very clear to me that replacing everything I use and consume with a healthier choice can be ridiculously overwhelming and frustrating but the benefits gained can not only be life-changing for me but also for the environment and my immidiate community.

My "Clean Pretty is Better Pretty" project is nowhere near finished and continues to be and probably always will be a work in progress but I wanted to share some of my findings with you my lovely readers and introduce you to some of my favorite discoveries.

The first brand I looked into that focused on both personal and household products that are clean, eco-friendly, organic and just overall plain-awesome is the now already famous Honest Company. Everything I read and inquired about when it came to their products, philosophy and customer service was beyond impressive that I now can't wait for their expansion to Canada (check their facebook page for updates). I will be placing an order for their Essentials Bundle on day one :-)
They offer everything from household necessities (laundry, dishwasher detergents), personal care products (shampoo, conditioner, bubble bath etc), baby essentials (wipes, diapers etc) and family staples (sunscreen, bug spray). After sampling a few of their creations I am definitively a huge fan!

Aesop is an Australian natural company that covers all the products one can possibly need - skincare, body care, hair care, fragrance and even some unique home based items. This already holds a cult position among the environmentally passionate and responsible individuals and is one of those brands that really never required hype to be successful. The luxurious and charming apothecary style bottles, fresh unconventional
scents and pure but effective formulations are just some of the reasons I was all over their stuff. Their low-key (realistic) promises, research dedication and use of only the best natural concoctions in the Aesop laboratories means that their products will stay true to what they say and there is no worry about any "nasties" causing havoc on your face or body. I had used their appropriately named Amazing Face Cleanser ($33 for 3.4 oz) before and loved it more than I like to admit, along with the Damascan Rose Facial Treatment ($73.00 for 0.9 oz), which is probably one of my favorite products of all time.

REN Skincare is all over my blog as it is so my love for their products is well-documented (see here!) but I couldn't resist mentioning them. Their "clean skincare" approach was ground-breaking when they first started and the most recent addition to their collection, Rosa Centifolia Foaming Cleanser ($22 for 150 ml) only renewed my obsession with REN. For those unfamiliar with the brand, you need to know that REN skincare does not use parabens, sulfates, petrolatum, glycol, silicone or artificial colors and preservatives in their innovative formulas which means you are getting a product chock-full of natural essential oils, antioxidants and replenishing phytohormones. To me REN is the best example that combining science and nature can result in a product that is effective but doesn't have to be harmful to fulfill its purpose.

Tammy Fender skincare brand is one of my most recent discoveries and their claim to fame seems to be focused on products based on ancient practices of holistic medicine and custom blended formulations. Basically their approach is centered on creating personalized product lines that deal with the individuals specific skin problems and concerns as companies seem to have finally realized that just because only a few "skin-types" have been established that doesn't mean that all skin should be boxed into such narrow categories. My favorite part of their philosophy and ultimately the reason I placed an order was their stance "everything put onto the skin enters into the body and becomes one with the person". Do we really want cancer-related and cell-destroying substances to become one with our bodies?
The product that wowed me (full review to come!) is the Capillary Strengthening Blend Formula No.CB-459 ($80 for 1 oz), which is a form of serum-oil designed for sensitive skins prone to redness (rosacia). I am so excited about trying more of Tammy's skincare especially since their mission fits most perfectly in the "Clean Pretty is Better Pretty" project!

The Intelligent Nutrients brand may be familiar to long-time Aveda  fans because they were both started by the same person. This brand however is certified organic and makes a seemingly endless number of products in each category - skin, body, hair and even a variety of nutritional supplements. Fun fact about the founder, Horst Rechelbacher - it is said that in 2008 during the launch of Intelligent Nutrients he demonstrated the brands commitment to purity and clean ingredients by actually drinking their new hair spray! I can't think of a better way to make a point about the safety of what you are trying to sell!
My favorite product from Intelligent Nutrients is the Plant Stem Cell Science Renewal Eye Gel ($48 for .5 oz), which claims to reduce fine lines around the eyes in a mere 20 days of religious use! I don't have a whole lot of lines yet (phew!) but I can definitively vouch for the hydration and plumping factor of the eye gel. The delicate skin not just feels better after I use this but it also looks brighter, hydrated and rested. Its a keeper for sure :-)

I hope you enjoyed this little guide and discovered a new "clean" brand to try.
Please join me in the upcoming installments for more products that are guaranteed not to make you sick :-)

Do you have a favorite natural or organic brand?

XOXO

Review - REN Purity Cleansing Balm

REN logo

I know my blog is starting to resemble a REN advertising campaign but rest assured I am in no way connected to the company, all my products were purchased independently, I am not getting paid for reviews nor do they know I am doing this. I doubt they even know of my blog existence.

Nevertheless I am a huge REN fan, so much so that if I was allowed only one brand in my skincare routine for the rest of my life I know I would choose REN and be very happy with my decision.
Everything about their clean skincare approach appeals to me and every single product I have tried from their lineup has been a favorite at some point during my beauty journey.
You can't argue with performance gold stars and REN has definitively earn quite a stash of them.

The REN Purity Cleansing Balm was one of the first cleansing balms I tried and subsequently overcame my fears of  "balmy oil" induced breakouts. The rest, as they say, is history!

Description;
REN Cleansing BalmThis rose-infused blam sweeps away impurities, including waterproof mascara and the toughest of complexion products. It leaves skin cleansed, purified, calm, and glowing. It also conditions the lashes and brows.

Ingredients;
Prunus Amygdalus Dulcis (Sweet Almond) Oil, Cetearyl Ethyhexanoate, Glyceryl Cocoate, Caprylic/Capric Triglyceride, Glyceryl Stearate, Glyceryl Dibehenate, Tribehenin, Glyceryl Behenate, Butyrospermum Parkii (Shea Butter), Sodium Cocoyl Glutamate, Rosa Centifolia Flower Extract, Cymbopogon Martini Oil, Eugenia Caryophyllus (Clove) Flower Oil, Viola Odorata Extract, Anthemis Nobilis (Chamomile) Flower Oil, Lecithin, Benzyl Alcohol, Oryzanol, Tocopherol, Citronellol, Geraniol, Eugenol, Linalool.

The REN Purity Cleansing Balm was formulated for all skin types and used as a makeup remover or gentle primary cleanser to remove pollution and accumulated dead skin cells. The muslin cloth included is entirely optional as the balm can be used either way but keep in mind that if you use it you are essentially preforming a gentle exfoliation of the skin surface so if you are a member of Sensitive Skin Care Club I would refrain from using other exfoliant solutions on that particular day.

The texture of the Cleansing Balm resembles that of traditional soft shortening but once warmed up in your hands it melts quickly in a silky oil-like solution, which is therefore easily distributed and massaged in to the face. The scent has a strong rose undertone but the fragrance is so balanced,  rejuvenating and luxurious, that it manages to elevate your beauty routine that much more.

REN Purity Cleansing Balm
The directions indicate to scoop a small amount into the palm of your hand and rub until the balm transforms into a silky oil, which then indicates when to begin the facial massage. I try to do this for at least a few minutes before gradually adding water to the skin surface and thereby emulsifying it into a rich milk tonic that is then either rinsed or polished off with the muslin cloth or a generic warm facecloth. The skin is left soft, smooth, calm, radiant and plumped up right away, with no dryness in sight. Clean and non-stripped of the skins natural oils your complexion responds with a healthy glow and immediate brightening effect. My skin simply feels better after each use and my skincare ritual is definitively enhanced to a bit more of a glamorous level.
Its a little slice of the REN Spa experience and its happening in your very own bathroom.

The REN Purity Cleansing Balm comes in both a traditional tube ($38 for 3.3 fl.oz.) and a tub ($58 for 5.1 fl.oz.) form in case you have a performance. I know a lot of bloggers and other individuals complain and are put-off by jar packaging due to contamination risk which is a legitimate concern but I don't make it an problem since your hands are suppose to be clean when you are about to put something on your face anyways. As an extra precaution I have a tube of hand sanitizer right next to the balm jar so I can use it after the hand wash to lower my contamination chances even more.

The price may seem a little steep for a cleanser however keep in mind that balms last a lot longer than the traditional foaming washes so in the end you break even and get a product that is not only a superstar but its also good for the skin in the long term. REN's Clean Skincare Commitment is something you can always count on and its definitively an incentive for good-for-you skincare splurge.

For more information about the REN Purity Cleansing Balm, their other products and retail information check out their website and as always REN products can be found at our trusty Sephora.

I hope this was helpful!

Have you tried the REN Purity Cleansing Balm? What is your take on cleansing balms - any favorites?

The Camping Beauty - A Guide for All High Maintenance Girls

There is no hiding or faking it - I am a high maintenance girl! I try to pretend and  act aloof when confronted by this fact but no more - I admit it, embrace it and honor it!
It might not be cool or popular to proclaim but it's the real me so I have decided to make the best of it and be proud of it for once. I have finally made peace with the fact that I will always over pack, I will always have 12 lip glosses in my purse, I will always enjoy a 12 step skincare routine and I will never-ever be the outdoorsy girl that looks perfect in 5 minutes. Never gonna happen!

Despite being the quintessential girly-girl and loving everything that comes along with that label, I will admit that there are times and circumstances when my "maintenance factor" can become a little cumbersome. Camping is one of those situations! The world came up with "glam ping" because if people like me!
I might be the "princess type" but I am also the "adaptable type" as well so getting ready and figuring out how to improve the quality of my existence even during camping is something I take quite seriously.
Here are some of the essentials that will make any girl feel better out there in the "wild"!

1. Wipes!!! Lots of lots of wipes!
There is nothing worse for a girly girl (or anyone really?) than that dirty feeling. When running water or pristine sinks are not available then the next best thing are cleansing wipes. Luckily for us today there are many good quality wipes available now, targeting everything from your face to your underarms.
My choice is L.A. Fresh and Josie Maran Argan Cleansing Wipes

2. Micellar Cleansing Water
It doesn't matter where I am I will always need and want to wash my face. While I would never use micellar water as a primary cleanser i find it works miracles for camping weekends when I am not wearing much makeup. I do, however make sure my choice is an excellent one with a tried & tested formula and good ingredients.
My top pics are usually Caudalie and Vichy

3. High Quality Sunscreen for Face & Body
This one is pretty self-explanatory and should not apply to high maintenance girls. Sun protection is important for everyone and that includes the boys!
I love the Supergoop Sunscreen

4. Multi-Tasking Balms
As much as I want to bring my entire beauty cabinet with me, I am reasonable enough to realize that in reality that wouldn't fare so well. However being me I have found a way to circumvent that restriction by bringing products that have multi-uses but don't skimp on the pampering factor. A good balm will perform several functions, eliminate the spill disasters and save room in my luggage for other "necessities".
My top choices are Emma Hardie Moringa Balm and Rodial Glam Balm

5. Multi-Tasking Cosmetics
Even though camping is certainly not the place to showcase a smoky glamorous eye, that doesn't mean you need to leave your entire makeup bag at home. Multi-tasking cosmetics can create a natural, polished look quickly and do wonders for your confidence. Look for quality BB creams (tind+moisture+spf), colour balm (lip & cheek tint) and clear mascara (lashes & brows)!
My top picks are: By Terry Baume de Rose, Givenchy Hydra-Sparkling Lip & Cheek Balm, REN BB Cream, Cover Girl Clear Lash and NARS Multiples.

6. Facial Spray
This isn't practical at all and it's definitively a frills item but its something I almost always have in my purse. Put it in a cooler for an extra refreshing feeling!
My choice right now is Caudalie Beauty Elixir!

7. Sheet Masks
This is an item for only the highest brand of girly girls who are prepared for all kinds of teasing and weird looks from camping companions. It takes 10 minutes, it's cool & refreshing, there is no clean up or mess to worry about and your skin will be extra blowy by the campfire.
Check out My Beauty Diary for skin-loving choices!

8. Dry Shampoo!
A ponytail is only going to keep your greasy roots hidden for so long before the yucky feeling becomes unbearable! Dry Shampoo will keep extend the time you can stand yourself by at least a day!
My pick is the Cake Beauty Satin Sugar because it works great and smells good enough to eat!

This list can go on and on! Camping will never be my first choice but with some beauty loot I am bound to be more comfortable and have an amazing time!

What are your outdoor beauty essentials?

XOXO

REN 7 +Day Optimum Radiance Program Part 3

This is going to be my final installment in the REN 7 Day Optimum Radiance Program and I have left the two products I enjoyed using the most for this last post. One is something that most of you already know about and the other I find is kind of an underrated product that hasn't really received all that much coverage in the beauty blogs or review sites for that matter. I think the reason a lot of amazing products get left out is because they are either not fancy or pretty enough or even more often their impact is not all that instantaneous so they are taken for granted or forgotten. I am going to try and change that.

Each morning after cleansing and toning I applied the REN Radiance Perfection Serum, while at night it followed the AHA Resurfacing Concentrate, right before my night cream. The instructions provided indicated that the serum was the only one used twice a day with no restrictions, which I took to mean that the formula was even gentler and milder than the rest of its counterparts.

REN Radiance Serum

What is the REN Radiance Perfection Serum;
A multi active serum formulated to reboot the skin’s energy cycle, visibly perfect skin tone and leave skin looking energised, radiant and luminous.

What is formulated to do;
Skin looks more energised, radiant, even toned, plumped and healthy
Regular use will help reduce the appearance of sun damaged skin and hyperpigmentation

Key Ingredients;
Vitamin C regulates skin pigmentation to reduce age spots and correct skin tone
Hyaluronic Acid provides intense, deep hydration
Glycogen and Magnesium work to boost skin energy and radiance

When I started using the Radiance Perfection Serum I liked it but was little underwhelmed and I really couldnt understand why. Maybe it was the fact that the other REN products in this range had a little more obvious and immediate effect on my skin, whereas I couldn't figure out exactly what this was doing. This serum treatment has the texture lotion and is probably one of the most hydrating serums I have across in all my skin care experiments. My skin is combination-dry and there were days when I felt that I could use just this, with no moisturizer on top and my skin remained comfortable for the day. Based on that I think those of you with oily skin most likely will not require an additional skin cream but once again sunscreen is a MUST!
Even though I wasn't exactly hooked on the Radiance Perfection Serum I continued using it for weeks after the official 7-Day program because I didn't want to waste it and despite the fact that I wasn't able to see a clear results I liked the way it felt on my skin.
Somewhere around the 3-4 week mark I started noticing that on the days I wasn't using the Radiance Serum my skin didn't look as fresh, as supple or as hydrated. What prompted me most to kick this serum back in to rotation were the questions and comments from well-meaning people in my life - "You look so tired, Are you sick?"...and nobody likes hearing that!
It took only two days for the perfecting serum to give me back the radiance and more importantly the well-rested glow I had worked so hard to keep.
Lesson of this story my friends! I am way too judgmental, impatient and fickle. Oh yeah - and don't underestimate the under dog both in skincare and i life!
Just because the results are not flashing in your face, all day long, every day; doesnt mean that its automatically useless! Give it a couple weeks and then decide, who knows what could happen.

The final product in REN'S Radiance Range is arguably their most popular and most talked about. Some beauty editors actually claim that this particular treatment is what put REN on the map and since then almost every beauty blog has featured it at some point. I am of course talking about the famous REN Glycol Lactic Radiance Renewal Mask.
There are so many reviews, comments, descriptions and tests across the blogosphere regarding so mask so I will try to make this brief.

What it is:
REN Radiance Renewal MaskA potent bioactive complex that reduces fine lines and dramatically improves tone, firmness, and radiance.

What it is formulated to do:
This treatment safely and effectively resurfaces the skin, without causing irritation. Its four-fruit-acid-complex (lactic, glycolic, tartaric and citric) and papain enzyme create a gentle-yet-potent exfoliating action that leaves skin glowing and healthy.
Key Ingredients;

Lactic, Citric, and Glycolic Acids: Help loosen dead skin cells.
Papain: Helps to gently exfoliate.
Omega 7: Improves skin appearance and reduces redness.
Omega 3: Soothes skin and helps boost cell turnover.

* The Radiance Optimum Program recommended using this mask on day 1, following the AHA concentrate and subsequently every 3-4 days. Once the intense 7-Day experiment comes to an end,  REN advises that the mask be used once or twice a week.

The REN Glycol Lactic Radiance Renewal Mask is essentially a very clever treatment, combining facial mask properties with a natural chemical exfoliant in order to both renew and resurface the skin. The resulting formulation of natural fruit enzymes and Omega compounds may sound gentle but don't underestimate the effects this mask can have on your face (especially if you have ultra-sensitive skin).

True to form, I was once again nervous about using a product that was described using terms like "acid" and "peel" but since I had taken a chance with the REN AHA Concentrate with amazing results I wasn't about to give up on the last step of this regiment.

I had been warned that I will experience mild stinging once i apply the mask and that was what essentially worried me. In all my skin care endeavors i had been conditioned to associate burning and stinging with something really-really bad!
Once again REN came through for me - there wasn't any stinging, only a mild "itchy" sensation in the first few minutes but after that my face felt so normal that I almost forgot i had a mask on my face. The instructions say to leave the mask on for 10-15 minutes, rinse off residue and complete the skincare routine as usual.

The results I experienced with this mask during the initial 7 day program were definitively dramatic, so much so that Mr.Princeza noticed and actually made a comment about the"orange marmalade goo". Explaining the Radiance Program to him was useless, his eyes glazed over 2 sentences into our conversation but nonetheless I was tickled pink that he said something :-) The way I see it, if a manly man (like Mr.Princeza!) compliments a skin care product that means something awesome must be going on. I think its safe to say that I will always have the Glyco Lactic Radiance Renewal Mask in my bathroom.

The final verdict on the Optimum Radiance Program is extremely positive and everything REN promised on these orange-scented bottles was delivered in a very short amount of time.
I would recommend all of these products, whether all together or separately, to almost everyone except those with very sensitive skin. If in doubt, get in touch with REN, ask for a sample and do a path test - you have nothing to lose but everything to gain (in the skin department, that is!)

All Radiance products and everything else REN makes can be purchased on their website or at everyone's favorite beauty store Sephora

I hope this was helpful to someone!

Have you tried REN? Any favorites?

REN 7 Day Optimum Radiance Program Part 2

Welcome Back to My REN 7 Day Optimum Radiance Program Part 2

Today I will introduce you to the first two products that I used during the challenge and let you know what I thought about their performance, the feel on my skin, and the final results in the mirror.

REN Radiance Micro PolishThe challenge program like all other skin care began with a cleanser but true to REN and the fact that this is after all a specialty item, the Micro Polish Cleanser does a lot more than just simply wash your face. I would classify it as a hybrid of a foamy fresh mousse cleanser and an intense but gentle microdermabrasion scrub! Even after just one use I could tell my skin looked and actually felt radiant. I cant even describe to you just how happy i am about instant gratification things!

Now this is what it is formulated to do:

This product washes away impurities and delivers maximum exfoliation, targeting uneven skintone, sun damage, and discoloration. Amber microbeads slough off dead skin cells, polishing the skin to increase circulation and smooth the skin's surface. Instantly, skin feels purified, smooth, and soft. The complexion appears brighter and more energized.

The key ingredients that do all that hard work are;

-Amber: Exfoliates and polishes skin surface.
-Papaya Enzyme: Removes dead skin cells.
-Glycolic and Lactic Acid: Decongests skin to leave it smooth and even toned.

What I love about the Micro Polish cleanser is that it combines gentle physical exfoliation (the microbeads) with elements of chemical resurfacing (papaya, glycolic-lactic acid). The formulation is very gentle but also very effective, which is the only reason why I would not recommend it on a daily basis. Those of you who are used to conventional scrubs might be surprised that this fresh foam will be able to exfoliate properly but if you give it a chance I am sure you will be able to see and feel the difference on your skin. Chances are once you use it a few times you will be tempted to use it a lot more because your skin feels amazing after this cleanser does its job BUT since the presence of glycolic-lactic acid makes this very potent, the risk of over-exfoliation is very likely if you try using it as your primary face wash.
REN Radiance Micro PolishI know I was tempted to recreate that polished feel each time I stood by the sink but I restrained myself and came up with a balance of 2-3 times each week. I also appreciate the fact this cleansing scrub rinses completely and quickly, leaving no residue, redness, irritation or over-stripping.

Since REN does not use any synthetic fragrances most of their products that have any type of scent, usually smell exactly like what they are suppose to, based on the ingredient list. The Micro Polish smells like citrus fruit or more specifically sweet oranges and even though personally prefer my cosmetics unscented I was strangely attracted to this one.

Upon completion of the 7 Day Radiance Program and after having used the Micro Polish cleanser three times that particular week I was very impressed with the results. My skin continued to be smooth even the day after I had used it, which is a huge improvement from the effects physical exfoliators usually have on my complexion. With a conventional scrub my skin did feel smooth and soft as well but stayed that way for a very short time - with REN the silky results not only lasted longer but since the exfoliation wasn't irritating I didn't have the usual "red-cheek effect" the whole day.

After the Radiance program was done I continued using the Micro Polish cleanser twice a week and the results continued to be the same every time. The most impressive part was not obvious to me for several weeks and it was actually pointed out by a friend - the old acne scars on my lower chin were fading, slowly but surely and that's no small feat for my skin. All the other positive points aside I would have re-purchased the Micro Polish for that reason alone.

REN Radiance AHA Concentrate
The step that usually follows the Micro Polish Cleanser is the REN AHA Resurfacing Concentrate, which is usually only recommended for night time use during the Radiance program and otherwise, because AHA make your skin very sensitive to the sun and if your if its not properly protected (sun screen) then any hyper-pigmentation issues you might have will not only get worse but your skin will be susceptible to even more damage. This should warn all of you to wear high level protection sunscreen during the day if you choose to try the REN Radiance range or on a daily basis for that matter.

What it is formulated to do:

This product gently exfoliates so that the skin appears radiant, even toned, and smoothed. It reduces the appearance of pore size and fine lines, improves moisture retention, and enhances the efficacy of your skincare routine. A powerful complex alpha hydroxy acids, including glycolic, lactic, tartaric, and citric acids, promotes cell turnover. Skin   is left looking healthier, revitalized, brighter, and smoother.

This was the only product in the Radiance collection that made me a little nervous about trying it. I had had a bad experience with an AHA serum a few years ago, which left me red, raw, irritated and my poor little red cheeks took months to completely heal. As usual i did a patch test, didn't feel any stinging or other red flags so for the sake of this experiment and radiance pursuit, applied a few drops all over my face and braced for impact. Obviously i felt completely stupid after a few minutes when nothing happened and feeling a little smug continued with the rest of my beauty routine.

The next morning my skin looked calm, fresh, radiant, smooth and a little more dewy than usual. My instant gratification wishes were once again fulfilled by REN and this concentrate. The fresh fruity scent found in the Micro Polish is even more prominent in this serum and I welcomed it with with an open nose - my fragrance ban in skincare somehow never applies to REN
REN Radiance AHA Concentrate
The formulation of this resurfacing serum was once again gentle but definitively effective in terms of results. Out of all the products in the range I believe its the AHA concentrate that is most responsible for the brightening and fading of any scars or imperfections you want to correct. Due to the fact that this "resurfaces" the skin means that changes in skin texture are to be expected as well and REN accomplishes just that without the usual irritations associated with other similar products.

After the 7 Day program was complete, it was recommended that use of the AHA concentrate be discontinued for 14 days to allow the skin to recover and take a little break from resurfacing, which I did but that doesnt mean that my skin was irritated or looked like it needed healing. If anything my skin looked glowy, radiant and healthy.

These days I tend to use REN AHA concentrate about 2-3 times a week or whenever I feel like my skin is looking a little more clogged than usual and as such its become one of my favorite liquid resurfacers. It may be gentle in feel but not in results so chances are this will be re-purchased as well.

To be continued in part 3 - Radiance Perfecting Serum & Glycol Lactic Skin Renewal Mask

REN 7 Day Optimum Radiance Program Part 1

REN Radiance Range

I know what you must be thinking - more REN? How many faces does this girl have that she NEEDS that much skincare?
Well I'll have you know that I have only one but its very demanding and well known for its high-maintenance ways :-) Plus I am weak!

My obsession aside, REN does happen to be one of my favorite brands and they have never disappointed me in terms of product quality, helpful customer service, fast shipping and consistent personal attention provided to every customer whether they are brand new or frequent fliers like myself!
Just a quick intro for those of you who might not be familiar with this particular brand or my own personal pre-occupation with their products.

REN is a "clean", cruelty free skincare company, based out of the UK, that gained popularity with a huge momentum all over the world in just a few short years. What attracted me to them in the first place was their philosophy and commitment to creating a line products that can deal with modern skin problems without using conventional "nasty" ingredients that have no business being near anyone's face or body.
In summery their marketing is very clear about what you will not find in a REN product - no silicone, no artificial fragrance or colour, no mineral oil, no parabens, no sulfates, no glycol, no petroleum and similar chemistry lab experiments, we should all be avoiding anyways.

Since its establishment REN has developed several product lines that are devoted to treating a specific skin issue or meant to target a particular concern you might be dealing with.
Hydra-Calm avoids known allergens, soothes, calms and "trains" skin to be less reactive
Ultra-Moisture repairs skin's natural defenses against moisture loss and hydrates desert dry skin
ClearCalm3 Anti Blemish System fights acne, excess oil and bacterial concerns without being harsh
Anti-Aging Line uses the latest bio-active technology to treat fine line, skin pigmentation problems and firmness concerns
Radiance Range products work to renew, revive, increase radiance and just keep you looking healthy

Ever since I heard about the release of REN's Radiance Collection I really wanted to give it a complete long-term (at least 6 weeks) trial by using every single product in the collection..The biologist in me began to develop a hypothesis and i was off to envision all kinds of scientific ways I could track my progress and present my findings.
Lets just say that somewhere between designing a comparative chart and developing a graph, things got a little messy and I remembered that Excel hates me...So since at that point i was ready to give up on the scientific method I decided it would be so much more fun for both you and me, for me to just tell you what exactly happened to my face...a friend to a friend kind of conversation!

This whole idea was prompted by an article I had seen somewhere on the net that referenced something called REN 7-DAY OPTIMUM RADIANCE PROGRAM!
Better skin, radiance and REN in 7 Days! That whole thing had my name all over it!
In my haste and excitement over those radiant prospects I of course lost the article URL and had all 4 REN products but no idea exactly how to implement them in the those 7 days! I searched the net but couldn't find anything specific, product reviews and general information but nothing that described how the REN system worked.
Finally I admitted defeat and emailed the company, resolving  myself to wait, thinking it will take a few days to get a response or even an automated reply but i didn't want to start anything without instructions for once. Now this is why I think REN has the best customer service of almost all the brands I have ever had to contact before.
About 20 minutes after i sent my original email, I received a very lengthy, informative, thoughtful and sweet email from the REN team, detailing everything i needed to know and even making suggestions about what to do if I come across any issues! Brilliant! It doesn't even end there because after a few days I got an envelope from REN (US office) filled with samples and a handwritten note!!! Now how often does that happen?
REN makes excellent products with super ingredients but what makes them great is the fact that they care about their customer experiences with skincare in general and will go over the top to help with any inquires and questions we throw at them :-)

So here are the instructions for the 7 DAY OPTIMUM RADIANCE PROGRAM
(as provided by customer service!)
Day 1
Begin with Micro Polish Cleanser followed by Glyco Lactic Skin Renewal Mask to prepare skin
Day 1-7
Resurfacing AHA Concentrate at night
Followed by Radiance Perfecting Serum
*In the mornings use a mild cleanser, follow with Radiance Perfecting Serum, top with moisturizer and sun screen
**Continue using the Micro Polish Cleanser and Glyco Lactic Skin Renewal Mask every 3 to 4 days
***After 7 days your skin will be resurfaced, radiant and re-energised. Over the next 14 days stop using the Resurfacing AHA Concentrate but continue to use the Radiance Perfecting Serum and the Micro Polish Cleanser and /or Glyco Lactic Skin Renewal Mask.

I feel its important to mention that REN does not recommend the Radiance Program or the Radiance Range for those with very sensitive skin so please use your own judgment and knowledge about your own skin before starting any new skin regiment.
The four products I will discuss in part 3 and 4 of this REN series are Micro Polish Cleanser, Radiance Perfecting Serum, AHA Resurfacing Concentrate and Glycil Lactic Skin Renewal Mask

*Supplementary skincare i used include: Omorovicza Thermal Cleansing Balm (makeup removal), Omorovicza Rejuvenating Night Cream, REN Hydra-Calm Global Protection Day (day moisturizer), Caudalie Premier Cru eye cream and Clarins UV Plus Day Screen (sun protection)

I will be posting part 2 and 3 very shortly where I will review each Radiance product and tell you guys about my experience during those 7 days and how I feel now that I've been using some of those REN products for a few months

If you have any questions or comments just leave them below and I will get back to you ASAP :-)

Thank you for reading

Sensitive Skin Club REN Hydra-Calm Line

Its no secret that I love REN. Its probably one of my top 5 all time favorite brands and I honestly can't say anything bad about them, their amazing customer service or any of their products. There aren't too many companies out there that I can stand behind completely and REN's Clean philosophy is a pretty awesome approach on how everyone should take care of themselves and their surroundings at the same time.

And please don't worry, it might sound like it but this is not a sponsored post in any way! I purchased all of my REN products myself and would gladly repurchase (and have!) again - I have nothing to gain by this review and all my thoughts and conclusions are my own.
The Hydra-Calm line in the REN magic apothecary is designed and meant for those of us that did not win the genetic skin-care jack pot of normal people skin. What i mean is if your face gets red and blotchy for no apparent reason, if it feels tight and dry in the morning but sometimes magically transforms to weirdly oily by the afternoon, or if you are known to blush equally by looking at cute things and by the sight of plain baby carrots...your skin is not normal, right? Plus if you are completely comfortable with words such as rosacia, dermatitis, psoriasis and dermatitis; then that means you are in the super exclusive Sensitive Skin Club.

REN describes the Hydra-Calm glory as;
REN's best selling Sensitive Skin range avoids known allergens and detrimental skincare ingredients, protects against environmental aggression pollution and is formulated with a range of bio actives that calm, strengthen and "train" sensitive skin to be less reactive.
With REN, you'll forget you have sensitive skin!

The two products i want to talk about are the REN Hydro-Calm Cleansing Milk and the the REN Hydro-Calm Global Protection Day Cream. I have used both of these for several months and I don't know if my skin is "trained" to be less sensitive but I can definitively say that my skin was a whole lot calmer whenever i stuck to this regiment.

REN Hydra Calm Cleansing Milk
REN describes this cleanser as;
A gentle, cleansing milk designed to leave more sensitive or delicate skin purified, fresh, calm and soothed.

When I first started using this cleanser I was once again put off due to my obviously deep-ridden addiction to bubbles. Apparently I cant seem to feel clean unless things foam up and my first impression of this milk was obviously tainted by this. However I was pleasantly surprised by REN (again!) and once i rinsed my face did feel clean and i didn't feel any of the dreaded filmy residue. My face was left soft, hydrated, smooth but still clean, maybe not deep clean but the feeling was definitively very different from what i was expecting. Cleansing milks usually make me feel pampered and girly but never completely clean, which is an issue of course so REN definitively got bonus points on that end.

The regular daily grime melted easily but as usual I would recommend a double cleanse on makeup days just to make sure that everything is properly removed. The last thing we want is congested skin due to to something we sensitive skin girls can actually control. The texture of this really helped as well since its thicker than traditional cleansing milks and feels almost like a a facial cream when its massaged in. The scent exudes freshness albeit its very mild, almost non-existent so if that's an issue you don't need to worry. There isn't even a trace of greasiness, which was important to me since i am kind of a stickler when it comes to needing my cleansers to be easy to rinse-off and even though its not required I actually liked using a muslin cloth with it it to help things along even more. I was even able to use it with my Clarisonic Mia 2.

Ultimately I liked the way my face felt afterwards so even though there were no bubbles I was comfortable enough in feeling that i was cleaning my face sufficiently without stripping it like usual. Therefore I would happily recommend this to any members of the Sensitive Skin Club or anyone looking for a great, gentle non-foaming cleanser.

REN Hydra-Calm Global Protection Day Cream

This is what REN has to say;
A moisturizer formulated to leave more sensitive skin optimally hydrated, calmed, soothed, protected and looking beautifully healthy.

This Hydra-Calm Global Protection Day Cream lived up to everything REN promised and more. Honestly if this had SPF protection built in I would say it was 100% perfect. I have used this on and off for about a year and my over-reactive skin feels great each and every time i smooth this on. The texture is thick, creamy, fresh and luxurious to say the least, it smooths on easily, absorbs quickly without any greasy residue and almost seems to soothe the redness on my cheeks. After a few minutes my entire face feels moisturized, soothed, smooth and yes CALM.
Along with the fact that my skin is annoyingly sensitive, its also dry which is why I can vouch for the Hydra-Calm cream performance in dry-skin hell - Canadian Winters. I am happy to say that REN worked wonders during the daytime under a good makeup base or tinted moisturizer but fell a bit short at night, when I needed something a little richer, with a bit more hydration to avoid the tight parched feeling the next day. I was able to fix that by adding the Rose O¹² Moisture Defence Serum underneath so I guess you could say REN still worked, I just needed to do a bit of customizing which is something I love the most about skincare in the first place.

The conclusion is quite easy for me - I loved the Hydro-Calm picks and I love REN so I would recommend it to the Sensitive Skin Club wholeheartedly but also to anyone looking for a no-nonsense, no-frills, full performance moisturizer.

Ren Hydra-Calm can be purchased at their site here or at Sephora here

I hope someone finds this helpful!

Have you tried REN before? Any favorite skincare products?
