Caudalie Divine Oil is Divine Indeed

Couple of years ago I absolutely hated any kind of oil treatments, regardless of what their purpose or function was. I was convinced that using them anywhere on my body would leave me greasy, uncomfortable, dirty or even worse acne-prone. 

Fast forward to the present and my shelves are practically overflowing with various oil products meant to moisturize, heal or even enhance every part of my body. Everything I used to think about oils has now been proven wrong. 

I have noticed that my favorite oils have a few things in common with each other and there are several guidelines I tend to follow when I make my selection. 

The properties I look are moisturization, absorption speed, longevity, short ingredient list and fragrance. While I can appreciate fragrance-free formulas if an oil has a fragrance I love then that's the one that holds preference. 

One of my favorite dry oils comes from Caudalie, a brand I am very familiar with and whose products are used regularly in our household. Caudalie Divine Oil is one of their most recent releases and it very well be my favorite Caudalie product to date.

Caudalie products are all formulated and created based on their own patented Vinotherapie discovery, which showcases  the power of grape seed antioxidants better known as Polyphenols.

The Caudalie Divine Oil features a unique combination of nourishing grape oil, extra virgin Argan oil, sesame oil and the all-important polyphenols. The formula is said to rejuvenate, nourish, soften, moisturize, protect against free radicals and in time restore skin's own lipid balance. It all sounds very impressive and even though I can't vouch for all of their scientific claims, I can tell you that it makes my skin and feel amazing. 

I believe that the majority of consumers use body oils like this one more during the summer months. That makes a lot of sense when you consider that the oil sheen makes tanned skin look amazing and summers are no time to be using heavy body butters that take forever to dry. Personally I now use oils year-round and during the winter months I have beer known to spike my usual lotion with oil for some extra hydration. 

Caudalie Divine Oil comes with a spray pump which makes application and distribution even more goof-proof. Since this is actually a dry oil it sinks in very fast and leaves no grease behind, making it usable (sparingly) for hair as well. The fragrance of the Divine Oil is very summery and beach-like, reminding me a lot to a similar product made by another French skincare company, Nuxe. 

I use and love both almost equally!

My final verdict on this product is obviously very positive and I can see myself using and repurchasing the Divine Oil for a long time. Caudalie prices can be a little high and this product is no exception ($48 for 100ml) but if you are in a pampering mood or need more moisture then this oil is an excellent choice!

Villainess Soaps - Dulces En Fuego Smooch!

I think we all know by now that I take my facial skincare seriously! My product regiment can be quite lengthy but I make it a priority to cover all my grounds and there are even a few fun extras thrown in for good measure.

Exfoliating is probably my favorite process and I have been using both chemical and physical formulations for years. Experimenting with different brands has given me so much valuable experience which means that now I know exactly what to look for when it comes to formulation, ingredients and expectations. I could pretty much teach a class on "successful ways to scrub your face"!

My knowledge and enthusiasm depletes significantly when it comes to body care and body scrubs. I believe that the main reason for my disinterest lays in the fact that I haven't found a body scrub formula or brand that I can really get excited about. Pampering in general is second nature to a girly-girl like me and even though I love the soft and silky results that come from exfoliation, I have always found body scrubs hard and tedious to work with. Most of the body exfoliators I tested were either insufficient, greasy, messy or too harsh on my skin. Faulty features like that diminish the entire pampering experience so more often then not I skip the body exfoliator and use my Salux mesh instead.

The world of Princeza approved body scrubs is obviously very small but there is an exciting new entry that i want to present - Villainess Soaps Dulces En Fuego Smooch!  I have already discussed this brand before where I introduced you to the Villainess Soaps Dulces En Fuego Whipped Body Cream, which I loved as well.

I was very surprised to find just how much I loved the formula of the Dulces En Fuego Smooch! scrub. I already knew that I loved the fragrance but I was hoping to appreciate the exfoliation factor and the results on my skin. I am happy to say that I have found my new "holy grail" in the body care department.

The Villainess Soaps Dulces En Fuego Smooch! formula is a hybrid of luxurious creaminess and just enough grit to properly smooth out my skin without irritation or greasy residue. Initially I thought that the lack of bigger "scrubbers" in the jar would mean that this wouldn't be effective enough but that was because the exfoliation of the Smooch! formula works differently than the traditional scrubs. 

When you first apply it on the skin, the first thing you feel is a sudden release of warmth spreading on the surface, which only lasts a few seconds before beginning to emulsify into a milky lotion that strips debris and dead skin cells. The Smooch! is water activated, it melts into the skin fairly quickly and spreads very easily everywhere so this is a perfect exfoliators for busy girly-girls like me. 

The scent is on the strong side so make sure that you like the fragrance you choose but that wont be hard since Villainess Soaps has so many unique, excellent choices on their website.

All Villainess Soap products are preservative free so once opened their products need to be used within 30 days of jar opening to prevent bacterial contamination and waste. That may sound like a negative feature but since the exfoliation is on the mild side you can use the Smooch! more often than conventional scrubs and the formulation is so good that you will want to use it as often as you can.
I wanted to use my Smooch! every day and I suspect you will too!

Passport Beauty - NARUKO Narcissus Total Defense Night Gelly

As a certified skincare junkie there is nothing I love more than discovering a new brand or even better an innovative product that introduces me to a completely different way I can pamper my complexion. If said item comes from a part of the world that focuses on and appreciates good skin-loving ingredients, then I have obviously hit the Skincare Jackpot. 

Asia has always been ahead of the western world when it comes to caring for the skin, with most skincare trends starting exactly there. BB Creams and Sheet Masks are excellent examples of game-changing products that were used for years before making their way to North America. There is a deliberate pattern of more importance placed on treating the skin than covering everything up with heavy makeup. I love that concept because it really rings true - if your complexion is unhealthy then makeup application will be that much harder. Asian brands are on the forefront of that concept and inclusion of skin-friendly ingredients continues to spill over into their makeup products as well.

Because of my appreciation for Asian skincare and as part of the Passport Beauty series I wanted to feature a few standout products from the far east.

I used this on a few stuffy, hot nights and it had a significant cooling effect, on top of all the other skin benefits. I suggest putting it in the fridge about 20 minutes prior to using it and the icy factor will be beyond refreshing, while the light botanical scent will help relax and soothe your thoughts away. Thats something we all need at bedtime!


I don't usually make comments about the outer packaging of my products but NARUKO deserves a special mention. This company has taken a very unique concept for the reuse & recycle movement by making the outer box transformable into a cute stationary stand. That little detail earns bonus points in my book!

My final conclusion is definitively positive and I would definitively recommend the NARUKO Narcissus Total Defense Night Gelly to everyone because I really believe in its performance. Its a joy to use in the summer and delivers an extra kick of hydration without making me feel greasy. I cant comment on its long term effects just yet but as far as instant gratification goes this is as good as it gets. The brightening results are very noticeable and that alone is an excellent reason to continue using it.

The Eye Cream Series - Clinique Even Better Eyes Treatment

We have all heard the expression - "Eyes are windows of the soul"! 

But what if your eyes perpetually look tired and sleepy? Does that mean people will think your soul is exhausted too? 

Well I am not about to take that chance and with the barrage of eye treatments available these days I am bound to find a suitable weapon sooner or later. 

I couldn't have been more surprised to find the perfect armour at Clinique of all places. 

The dark circles around my eyes can be very prominent due to several factors, one of them being my Mediterranean roots. With that in mind I am deeply aware that the chances of me completely banishing that darkness are slim to none. However I know that new skincare innovations can definitively help minimize things. 

Clinique skincare never really appealed to me and sadly because of that I have overlooked many of their products in all department mediums. With the discovery of the Clinique Even Better Eyes treatment I am hoping to change the neglect to at least an open mind. 

Description;

An oil-free, hydrating cream that visibly lightens dark undereye circles. 

What it Does;
Look more rested with this oil-free cream that works to keep skin nourished while lightening dark undereye circles. The skin-strengthening ingredients make skin less transparent, while the cooling massage tip breaks up puffiness. Sheer optics create an instantly brighter look for all skintones from fair to deep, leaving skin healthy and younger-looking. 

Clinique states that this eye treatment is clinically proven to visibly brighten dark circles by 30 percent over a 12 week period. 

A lot of reviews criticize this proclamation because the 30 percent number seems to be on the low end. Personally I really appreciate Clinique's honesty and release of a specific ratio of improvement. There are so many brands and products out there that make all kinds of extraordinary claims with ambiguous wording and lack of any serious clinical data, in hopes of duping their customers into buying into  their false mantra. At least with Clinique Even Better Eye I know specifically what it is that I am to expect in terms of results. Brand integrity is a huge thing for me and Clinique definitively passes that test. 

If you have been reading my blog then you already know how much I love products with the instant gratification factor whose ingredients also have long term effects. The Even Better Eyes formula fulfills both of those categories and delivers on both as well. The sheer, mica tint diffuses and visibly corrects the darkness right away while the antioxidants, caffeine and mulberry root join forces to brighten the area over time. 

The cool, metal applicator deals with any superficial puffiness around the eye with just a few strokes and the tinted cream acts as a light concealer. Those features make the Clinique Even Better Eye an excellent choice for a daytime eye cream. 

Clinique products are traditionally fragrance-free, dermatologist tested and in the case of the Even Better Eye formulation they added the ophthalmologist approval too. 

My final conclusion is extremely positive and I would recommend this eye treatment to anyone looking for a dark circle remedy. It's an effective formula, its texture feels silky and soothing around the eye and the price is reasonable ($49) and I can't find anything bad to say about it.  Essentially the Even Better Eye treatment made Clinique relevant to me and I will now be popping by their counters again very soon.

Review - Living Proof Style Lab SATIN HAIR SERUM

A couple of weeks ago I posted about my basic hair routine and I was even a little bit proud about its simplicity and my self control when it came to hair products. It's pretty obvious that those statements don't apply to me anymore so I might have to eat my words...

I received a small sample of the Living Proof Satin Hair Serum when it launched and decided to give it a try since I remembered how popular their Thickening Cream was in the not-so distant past.

With long, thick, strong hair I was obviously not their target audience when it comes to thickening but frizz-fighting hair serum was definitively something I could use. 

The fact that the fabulous Jennifer Aniston was their spokesperson only enhanced my resolve to test drive a product that supposedly helps her hair look so amazing. I was too young to obsess over the "Rachel" hairstyle but that doesnt mean I couldnt appreciate her hair today.

The texture of the Satin Hair Serum is very light and runny, so much so that I was sure this would do not help my hair one bit. However I am happy to say that I was pleasantly surprised by its feel, performance and light citrus-like scent.

The key feature of this Satin Hair Serum is its ability to fight frizz, smooth out your locks and add shine, without any weight, residue or silicone's. Most hair products aimed at doing the same thing rely on a silicone formula to "fake" those results. In the long run this can cause heavy build up, drying out, more split ends and further damage. Hair may appear and even feel smooth for a while but what you are dealing with is silicone coated follicles that only mask the "true" condition of your hair. 

Personally I love hair oils but as a long-term Moroccan Oil user I can attest to the fact that if I am not careful with how much I put in my hair, all I am accomplishing is a greasy bad hair day. The Living Proof Satin Hair Serum eliminates that problem and I can see this particularly appealing to individuals with thin hair whose hair oil use can be even more problematic. 

The formula showcases OFPMA and polymer molecules whose combination eliminates smoothing issues and leaves hair feeling light and never greasy. My favorite "side-effect" of using this is that my hair looks and appears illuminated but feels like I haven't used any styling products at all. Bonus points go for the increased softness of my coarse , thick Mediterranean locks and the definite improvement when it comes to manageability and movement.

It's a definite winner for me and while I will probably never give up my Moroccan Oil this is an excellent alternative to rotate in between "oil" days. The price point of the Living Proof Satin Hair Serum ($33 for 1.5 oz) is fair in my opinion especially when you consider that a bottle will last a long time since you only need a few drops to get the desired effect.

Bliss - I Like Big 'Butter' and I Cannot Lie Set

My favorite Bliss scent infusion is definitively the Lemon+Sage version, which is surprising since this is not a fragrance that is expected from a girly girl like me. The combination of the lemon and "fresh sage" translates into a strong citrus-like scent that is so uplifting and crisp that I would almost label it as energizing and mood boosting. Its a perfect way to start your day each morning for a little "perk-up".

The Bliss Lemon+Sage Body Butter holds a special place in my heart because it was one of my first Bliss products I purchased myself  and basically my informal introduction to higher-end body products. Aside from the energizing scent the thing I love most about this "cream" is the fact that its texture is a lot lighter and creamier than the conventional body butter formulation. Its exactly that feature that makes this so much easier to work with for those dry days when I don't necessarily have too much extra time to wait around before getting dressed. It makes my skin silky smooth, lightly fragranced and comfortable all day long. I really can't find anything wrong with the Bliss formula and I really appreciate the convenient tube packaging.  

The Bliss Lemon+Sage Soapy Suds is multi-purpose body cleanser that preforms great as a body wash, bubble bath and even as simple bath soak. Its definitively one of the underrated products in the Bliss body collection but I think I could say that about the majority of body washes available in the beauty market today. My expectations of a body cleanser are quite simple - creamy lather with bubbles, no residue leftovers and a fragrance I can at least tolerate! The Lemon+Sage Soapy Suds fulfills all of those with the bonus perk of a fragrance that I love and find extremely uplifting especially during those groggy mornings when the get-up and go seems so difficult.
While I do really love the Soapy Suds, aside from the lovely fragrance I can's say that the formulation is all that different from all the other body washes I tried that were less expensive than the Bliss version. I am far from disappointed and I love using this in my morning shower but its definitively not a must have item for me.  

In conclusion I love the Bliss "I Love Big Butter And I Cannot Lie" Set because of the product combination, their performance and the value. However the star of this bundle is definitively the Lemon+Sage Body Butter ($10 to $35) and its something I would repurchase on its own for sure. The Lemon+Sage Soapy Suds ($21) while a joy to use is a bit underwhelming in comparison with its body butter counterpart. 
That said I would definitively get and use the Soapy Suds if I was to luck out and find  it in another gift or value set.

Review - Kate Somerville Goat Milk Cream

Kate Somerville skincare was mistakenly labeled by my groggy self as an "infomercial gimmick" brand a while back when I happened to be awake at 4 am, flipping channels and enjoying the dramatic displays various paid programming spots were showing. Somewhere between the incessant Proactiv ads and the Magic Bullet demonstrations, Kate's products got lost in the shuffle and for a long time after I dismissed the constant raves I read online about her celebrity clients.

I guess it takes the right "celebrity" to get my attention and in this case change my very stubborn mind. Caroline Hirons, my unofficial skincare consultant, featured a few Kate Somerville picks in her own skincare routine and specifically mentioned the Goat Cream as a great option for a moisturizer because of its Lactic Acid mild exfoliation properties. She actually classified this as her Absolute Must Have!  Caroline's genius had never let me down before so when i came time to find a new moisturizer Kate Somerville's Goat Cream was my obvious first pick.

The main feature of the Goat Milk Cream is the clever combination of the mild exfoliant, Lactic Acid, with hydrating agents, Jojoba, Coconut & Avocado. Goat milk is naturally rich in proteins, vitamins, amino acids, antioxidants and lactic acid, making it an ideal ingredient for treating skin that requires hydration and de-clogging properties. 

I really appreciate the unique packaging as well because it cuts down the chances of contamination and the since its not a traditional pump it will not clog like some of its counterparts. 

The level of moisture provided in this cream is definitively suitable for combination-dry or even slightly oily skin types but those with very dry skin will need an additional hydration source, such as a serum. I find that the texture of this cream is deceptive because it seems and feels light but in reality its very concentrated and rich. A small amount is needed to properly moisture and if I use too much my skin stays tacky a little bit longer. With practice I have found that about a half pump is more than enough for the face and neck and if I get it right the cream sinks in quickly, leaving my skin comfortable and silky soft. The smooth factor makes this moisturizer a perfect base for makeup application, so much so that there are times I skip the primer step and apply just foundation over the Goat Cream. 

I have read reviews that mentioned the offensive "milk-like" scent but I have to disagree because my jar barely has any fragrance and it does not emulate milk in any way. If I had to speculate I would say it smells fresh, calming and almost comforting. However fragrance is highly subjective so to you the scent might seem completely different too! The formula does not have any added fragrances, no parabens or silicone's, making it a good choice for my fellow Sensitive Skin Care Club members or anyone else with reactive skin. 

The final conclusion on my part is very positive and I can see this moisturizer staying in my skincare routine for a very long time. Kate Somerville's Goat Cream moisturizes my skin deeply, comforts & calms redness and inflammation and most importantly leaves my complexion looking bright and radiant. I strongly believe that anyone looking for a natural, simple, high quality formula in a moisturizer will love the Goat Cream. 

My apologies to Ms. Somerville for my quick judgement! I think I finally found a worthy infomercial product :-)
